Crack!
Kodomo no Omocha
I know why you're here- it's because this page is titled
"Crack", and y'all think I'm a crack addict. Right?
Well, guess what? You're right! (*sigh*) But this crack is far
more addictive than any drug!
Ok, here's the deal. When my friend Randy first introduced me to
Kodomo no Omocha, he called it "Crack" and that's how I've thought
of it ever since. And he's right! You think you can walk away after your first hit,
but you just CAN'T! He showed me and my boyfriend the first tape of 4 episodes,
and I thought, Well, this is actually very cute! Maybe I'll borrow the next tape
sometime. My boyfriend was rather more reluctant.
3 months and more passed.
Randy lent us the next 2 tapes. By the time I was finished with
tape 2, I was totally addicted. I finished the third tape, and I was a junkie,
slavering for more and willing to sell just about anything to get my next hit. But
tape 3 was all we had at the time. Argh! Withdrawl symptoms imminent!
Just to tease you with the crack pipe . . . .
List of Characters
- Kurata Sana- (last name first in the Japanese style)- the main character. She
is 11 years old, a child actress and goes to public school. She does commercials
and also stars in the show "Zenjirou's Child's Toy" within the show. She
is ultra-hyper, and generally bounces all around. About the first thing you notice
about Sana-chan is the size of her eyes. Typically in Japanese animation, the size
of the eyes indicates the appeal the character is supposed to have- the larger the
eyes, the more appealing he or she is (at least to Japanese audiences). Sana's
eyes seem to take up 1/3 of her face- you can't help but like her, even if you are
annoyed with her a lot.
- Hayama Akito- one of Sana-chan's classmates. At first, he is her avowed enemy-
the boss monkey who instigates the boys in the class to act up and make school a
joke. Through a surprising series of events, he curtails his bad behavior and
eventually comes to "not hate" Sana. Watch the anime or read the manga,
and you'll see why that's in quotes. In nearly direct contrast to Sana, he is
outwardly very calm, cool and collected. His eyes, however, are also large,
indicating a great deal of appeal.
- Mama- Sana-chan's mother, an award winning author. She has a history of strange
hairdos, and a squirrel named Maro-chan living on her head.
- Sagami Rei- Sana introduces him as her manager, boyfriend and pimp. Let's just
make this perfectly clear- Sana has NO IDEA what a pimp is. He's 20 years old,
and, despite the difference in their ages, he cares about Sana very much.
I would suggest watching the episodes as close together as possible
for "maximum hit". *grin*
The anime is no longer being released by Kodocha Anime, the
fansubbing company that originally produced it. The manga has been lisenced by
TokyoPop.
