Years o' Fic
This requires a bit of explanation. In 2008, the LiveJournal
community livelongnmarry was holding acutions to support some same-sex marriage
charities. People offered up various things - including fanart and fanfic.
Since I can't art, I offered up a year o' fic: one fic/ficlet per month for 12 months, according to the list of fandoms I write in (or could write in) and the specific prompts given to me by the buyer. Each ficlet would run between 101 and 1000 words (some might go more, but most would be in that range).
I actually set up 2 years, because I knew my dear friends forest and JoAnn were watching, and my first year got snapped up almost immediately by someone else. (To say I was shocked would be an understatement.)
It was an interesting task, not least because I went outside my comfort zone on some of the fics, for pairings and content, and even fandoms to some extent (as I had not written muchany Firefly other than that one piece for forest).
There are two lists of fic below, one each for heeroluva and forest, as they are the ones that bought my years o' fic.
- No Apologies Necessary
(LotR) A quiet moment between young Faramir and Boromir, inspired by the prompt "hero". Faramir is about 13 in this - mature enough in some ways, but not in others. Gen. PG to PG-13 for vaugely unsettling images.
- Off the Vine
(Firefly) Jayne, Mal and River in Serenity's mess, with grapes. Inspired by the prompt "fruit" - as if that weren't blindingly obvious. PG-13 to R (Jayne is involved, bad words are said).
- Getting Away
(Firefly) Jayne wonders why he don't take his ma's advice. Inspired (kinda) by the prompt "escape" from the list A bit dark. Slash (Mal/Jayne). NC-17.
- Persistence of Memory
(Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves) Will had long since decided there was a difference between not remembering and forgetting. Somewhat inspired by the prompt "blood" from the list. Will and Robin. Gen. PG to PG-13 (for a brief bit of potentially disturbing imagery).
- Depth of Faith
(The Boondock Saints) They weren't sure which of them had killed her.. 5 drabbles that tell a story. Not inspired by any of the prompts, but just an idea of what might happen. PG-13 for swearing and death.
- The Demon Inside
(BtVS/AtS) Angel is back in SunnyD off the sense that something is wrong, and happens to meet up with Xander. Except it's not the Xander he remembers. Based on the plotbunny heeroluva gave me, where the hyena wasn't entirely gone. Set in BtVS s4 and AtS s1. PG to PG-13.
- Blindsided
really not happy that Angel is playing the "demonic possession" card. Continuation of "The Demon Inside." A bit of violence, a bit of cursing.
PG-13, possibly higher.
- On the Run
On the Inside
(BtVS/AtS) Xander wakes up in a place he really doesn't want to be. Angel isn't faring much better. Continuation of "On the Run." PG.
- Flesh of My Flesh
(Firefly) Jayne tries to decide if he is well and truly fucked. Prequel/sequel (yes, both, really) to "Off the Vine." Inspired by the prompt "flesh/bone" from the list, and forest's helpful suggestion to use it for this pairing, though I suspect this really isn't the way she thought it would end up. Jayne/River. R to NC-17.
- These Golden Years
(Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves) Will tells himself he need not be jealous of Marian. 5 drabbles. Robin/Will. Angst! Incest! Present tense! NC-17.
- Wings Over Arda
(LotR) Into every generation... oh, wait, that's for Slayers. Each race of Middle Earth has a secret that comes out once a generation. The Fellowship may have more than its fair share. Silliness and randi-humor (which tends to the physical and the absurd). PG.
- Endlessly Waiting
(Voltron - Vehicles) A fic in the In Ale Veritas 'verse, originally created by me and Joann, with an inadvertant sequel by forest, who watched us write it. This is set after forest's sequel, but before me and Quill's "In Sobriety, Regret". Jeff/Shannon. Slash. PG-13 (so maybe not a lot of slash?).
- The Way It's Gotta Be
(Gatchaman) Ken's having problems with the way Joe's been acting since he's been back. Slash. Ken and Joe's fucked-up relationship. A bit of consensual violence. NC-17.
- The Way You Want It
(Gatchaman) Joe's having problems adjusting to being back. Slash. Ken and Joe's fucked-up relationship. Alcohol and a bit of consensual violence. R.
- … As Those Who Will Not See
(Voltron - Lions) "It vas too simple." "And that means... what?" This is what came of forest's prompt of new experiences and/or pushing one's comfort level. (Yeah, I'm not sure what happened, either.) Gen. Sven and Lance. PG.
- Eye of the Storm
(Gatchaman) There's more than one way to enjoy the snow. forest's prompt for January deals with a certain four-letter word. Ken and Joe. Gen (omg, warning for gen!) (The merest hint of slash. If you look sideways. And squint. A lot.) PG.
- Always Understood
(Voltron - Lions) Lance knows Keith, and this is something he can't let go. A whisper of slash, a strong scent of alcohol and a sudden dash of angst. PG-13 (possibly higher). forest's prompt was: Okay, Lance is totally temperamental, chip-on-his-shoulder guy, but I also see him as someone who, when things go wrong or the shit hits the fan, will absolutely be there for someone. He may not be there for them in the most tactful way, and he may be uncomfortable as hell about it, and he may try to lighten and deflect before dealing with anything, but he's there and it would never even occur to him to be elsewhere. I would like a fic that taps into that somehow.
- Cutting Loose
(Voltron - Vehicles) Jeff is not well-suited to R&R on an alien planet, until Shannon helps him out. OMGYESSlash. (When forest gave me this prompt, my mind immediately leapt into the gutter... didn't quite make it to the smex in the fic, but in my head, there were copious amounts of smut.) Jeff/Shannon. R.
- The Way the World Ends
(Gatchaman) The secret was killing him. Follows "The Way It's Gotta Be" and "The Way You Want It." Violence and death, with copious angst. Also, vauge hints of slash. R.
- The Westward Journey (Chapter One)
(Voltron - Lions) Extreme AU. Many long years ago, forest submitted the following to the Plot Bunny Adoption Center on the vying Yahoo! Group: (Blame Cowboy Bebop/Trigun/Firefly) Voltron the Western. Plunk the boys into those classic archetypes - the sheriff/cowboy/gunslinger/gambler/bartender/prostitute/rancher/whathaveyou. This fic takes her up on that. Eventual slash of the Lance/Keith variety (but no way no how in this chapter). Violence and death. R.
- The Way of the World
(Gatchaman) Ken is certain that Joe... isn't Joe, and it sends him over the edge. Follows immediately on from "The Way the World Ends." Violence and death, cursing, and angst without a happy ending in sight. More than just a hint of slash. R for their dirty mouths.
- The Westward Journey (Chapter Two)
